Do You Need Foundation Repair?

When it comes to your home's structure, the foundation is essential. The beams and walls rely heavily on a sturdy support system that will not change, shift, or move. In the event that your foundation accumulates any kind of damage, it can mean bad news for your entire home. When this happens, you need a foundation repair company to come to your rescue. Does your home need foundation repair? Here are three signs that point to yes.

Sign #1: Cracked Flooring and/or Walls

When you notice walls cracking unexpectedly, more often than not, the problem is the foundation. As various sections of the walls are lowered or raised unevenly, the wall will crack in an effort to relieve some of the stress, meaning that a simple repair will not suffice. The same is true with cracks in the flooring. If you notice cracks in the walls or flooring of your home and do not have a good reason for the cracks, contact a foundation repair company as soon as possible.

Sign #2: Sloping Floors

When a home is first built, all floors in the home are level and even—unless the home was poorly built by a construction company. Now, over time, the foundation of the home may tilt, shift, and crack, which leaves the floors in the home a bit uneven and unlevel. In some cases, this may be noticeable at first glance, but if you are uncertain, a level can be used to check for sure before contacting a professional for repair.

Sign #3: Gaps Between Surfaces

Have you noticed any gaps along the edges or corners of surfaces in the home? If so, then the gaps are an indication that the surface has rotated or shifted away from its initial position. For example, a gap where the floor and wall once met means that either the floor or wall has tilted. As a general rule, this tilt was caused by a moving foundation. It is also possible to get gaps in doorframes and windows due to shifting foundations.

If you have noticed any of the aforementioned signs in your home, it is imperative that you take action as soon as possible. The longer that you hold off on foundation repairs, the worse that the damage will become. Your foundation is essential to keeping your home "together". Contact a foundation repair company in your area today for an estimate for repairs.
